Mayor John Whitmire and Houston First Corporation unveiled a transformational master plan creating a vibrant, walkable convention and entertainment district in East Downtown. Phase one incorporates a 700,000-square-foot expansion of the George R. Brown Convention Center with access to Toyota Center via a new 100,000-square-foot pedestrian plaza, redefining downtown’s eastern edge.

As Houston prepares to welcome the world for FIFA World Cup 2026, the Houston Host Committee announces a citywide search to showcase local talent to perform on the live stage at FIFA Fan Festival Houston in East Downtown. The open call invites Greater Houston-area musicians, dancers and performing acts to apply for the opportunity to perform in front of international audiences.

Houston Welcomes the World for the 2026 FIFA World Cup
Houston is preparing to host seven FIFA World Cup matches between June 14 and July 4, 2026. The tournament is projected to draw more than 500,000 visitors and generate $1.5 billion in economic impact. In addition to the matches, Houston will host a 39-day Fan Festival that will take over East Downtown near Shell Energy Stadium, serving as a central gathering place for fans from around the world.
